I DID IT MY WAY: How does Satan present himself?

Satan may not be quite the horned, evil, brutal-looking creature that many depict him as being.

“For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.  And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.  Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.”  2 Corinthians 11:13-15

I really don’t see the Devil with horns, a forked tail, carrying a pitchfork, wearing “heavy metal” paraphernalia, piercings, tattoos, chains around his neck, and a spiked collar.  Instead, I would imagine the Devil coming along with beauty, eloquence, talent, intellect, richly dressed, and of high social ranking.  In fact, he just might despise and chuckle at those in the other more unsightly sub-cultures with their black Satanic T-shirts and crazy piercings and tattoos.

I could see the Devil with hands folded in thought, almost prayerfully so, with wealthy clothes while pretending to be loving, kind, and humble.  I could envision him scheming out how he could set all the wrongs of the world “right” by breaking a few rules and doing it “his way” instead of GOD’s with an “end justifies the means” philosophy.

I believe most of the evil in the world has been done for “good reasons”.  Remember how King Saul wanted to make a sacrifice for GOD, except he wanted to do it “his way”?  Remember the repercussions? The Spirit of GOD left him, an evil spirit troubled him, he pursued godly David in order to kill him, he consulted with a witch invoking the Israeli death penalty at that time in history, and he ended his own life by a suicidal finale.  On the other hand, David probably did far worse evil, but he repented and followed GOD’s way instead of stubbornly rebelling like Saul who chose to do things his own way.

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”  – Proverbs 3:5-6

Remember the old jazz song by Frank Sinatra titled “I Did It My Way”?  That song is a perfect example of most rebels in this universe, whether it be Satan, his demons, or mankind.  Everyone “knows best” it would appear.  They all want to do noble and pure things (in their own mind) but they just want to do it “their way” instead of GOD’s way.  Ultimately, “I Did It My Way” is the philosophy behind most of the evil in the world today.

“Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.”  – Ezekiel 28:17
